Gstaad Baroque Academy

It is our great pleasure to present Maurice Steger’s third artistic directorship of the year: the Gstaad Baroque Academy. In the dreamy mountain village of Schönried in the Bernese Alps, the recorder player and conductor of early music leads an academy for budding musicians every year whose focus is on early music. In 2018, 20 active participants will join together over the course of 8 days to learn, try things out, laugh, eat, play concerts and exchange knowledge. In addition, the Baroque Academy will also be hosting 7 young award winners of the Swiss Young Musician Competition over 4 days in a specially devised pre-college program.

Maurice Steger, together with a team of excellent professors and instructors, will be leading these intensive days. He will be joined by the recorder players Han Tol, Michael Form, Max Volbers, Jan van Hoecke and Laura Schmid. The gambist Hille Perl, the harpsichordist Diego Ares and other instructors will provide guidance on the main focus, French baroque music.

Feel free to drop by and listen in while staying at the wonderful Hotel Ermitage in Schönried ob Gstaad. Classes can be viewed by the public from 26.– 31. August, between 11 am–1 pm, and between 2 pm–4.30 pm.

You will be able to witness this young generation of musicians in action during two closing concerts: on 31 August in the Concert de salon Ermitage, and on 1 September in the Concert de l’église de Rougemont. All public offerings of the Gstaad Baroque Academy are free of charge (post-concert donation). No advance booking.
