A renowned expert for Baroque music, Maurice Steger was increasingly asked to conduct orchestral projects himself over the years. This made him decide to study conducting with Marcus Creed in Stuttgart under special guidance from Reinhard Goebel. Today, Maurice Steger is available for concerts both as a conductor and as a soloist and leader.
Maurice Steger has been invited to perform all over Europe and overseas. He has repeatedly conducted modern orchestras like the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, the Zürcher Kammerorchester, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Canadian chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy or the Brandenburg State Orchestra. He has also been involved in projects with the Malaysia Symphony Orchestra, the Staatsorchester Braunschweig, CHAARTS as well as with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
He regularly guests in a leading role with ensembles playing on period instruments like The English Concert, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Venice Baroque Orchestra or La Cetra.
Until 2011, Maurice Steger was “Baroque Music Director” for the Zürcher Kammerorchester (Principal Conductor: Sir Roger Norrington) and developed and conducted concert programs for Baroque and classical music. He developed good relations with other conductors of Baroque music and presented unknown music from the 17th and 18th century.
